Critical Thinking and Media Literacy
The mass media
The mass media like all the means of storing and share information are an important part of the meanings of wise up.
But like all of the information we get, we need to doubt about it, is not like we don't trust what we see or what we read, but is a good practice to corroborate the information we get, like, we see a video about a robbery, well we should see when the video was share, and if it is recent upload, we should make sure the video hasn't be uploaded for example 2 years ago.
Why is this important?
Because we don't know what is the propose of the transmitter of the information. we don't know if they only want tho share a fact, if they want to share a feeling, if they want to share a fake news, if they want us to fell sad, angry, happy or whatever about something because there is an election in a near time, maybe they want to change a law, maybe they want the people to be more pro immigration or anti immigration. We don't know.
So, taking in mind that we cant know what are the true intentions of the transmitter, we can at least compare if what they share is true or false.
Some media platforms are moved by money, so they tend to use more the ads like in TV, or they are moved by the trends and relevance of they platform, so they tend to use polemic titles or something that can catch attention or "click baits", some are moved by making the people more political active towards some party's, like fox news, or some are moved just to share information. So, because of that, we need to pay attention what they want us to believe or what reaction they want us to make.
Just an example
Here we have a parody made by RockStar Games, they meant to parody the false information that was spread about games years ago, like, games made people more violent or in this case impotent, just to represent how stupid that thesis is, but because some "scientist" say it, then we need to believe it, and the cherry on top of that, they "scientist" are paid by TV companies, the direct affected by video games because they lower the audience by competing in the entertainment field.
